(More customer reviews)I bought one of these brand new back in 1992 and it sat on my bookshelf out of UV sunlight for many years. The other day I noticed some of the liquid appeared to be missing.Apparently Willitts Designs made these with a rubber seal that rots over time. The glue that held the ship-stand to the seal decayed, the rubber broke down and now my globe is in the trash and the antique shelf it was on has to be refinished.
And of course Willitts Designs is long gone (part of a merger of a merger) and there's no recourse to even pay to get the item repaired.
One of the items that's been for sale on Amazon has had this happen to it as well, so chances are there's a considerable failure rate on these.
